Join 1,000 other people of faith from across the metro for Opportunity Now!, a grassroots response to conditions here in the Kansas City metro. Organized by Communities Creating Opportunity (CCO), Opportunity Now! will bring people of faith together to advocate for systemic  change and innovative solutions benefiting Kansas and Missouri families.

The vision that CCO congregations will present Oct. 18 calls on elected officials and civic leaders to create economic security, and safe and healthy environments for families by:

• Leading a ballot initiative petition to cap the triple digit interest rate of payday, car title and consumer installment loans and securing financial support to launch  an alternative product that provides short term, small dollar loans to families through Fair Community Credit. 

• Banning mortgage prepayment penalties and initiating mandatory mediation to help prevent unnecessary home foreclosures and reduce the blight abandoned homes create.

• Improving access to health care while lowering costs by designating Kansas City as a test site for an innovative program that has proved to reduce emergency-room visits and costs, and by enrolling all eligible children in existing state children’s health insurance programs.

• Creating lifelines out of poverty and violence to community and civic engagement through opportunities for citizenship, quality education, and safe neighborhoods.

Your attendance will help send a clear message that our metro faith communities are standing together for an agenda of OPPORTUNITY.  We are providing a pastoral witness to the issues keeping families up at night and a prophetic vision for what our communities can be.  You can make a difference and be an active force for good in our communities.
